Acne Treatment

What is Acne Treatment?

Acne develops when pores become blocked with excess oil and dead skin cells, allowing acne-causing bacteria to multiply and trigger inflammation. Common contributors include increased sebum production, hormonal shifts, stress, poor sleep and cosmetics that do not suit your skin. Acne can range from blackheads and whiteheads to red papules, pustules and deep, painful nodules or cysts. Inflamed acne that is left untreated or squeezed at home is more likely to leave dark marks or scars.

Who it's for

Acne treatment may be helpful if you notice:

  • Recurring whiteheads, blackheads or clogged pores
  • Red, tender pimples or pus-filled spots
  • Deep, painful cysts or nodules
  • Breakouts along the jawline that flare with your cycle or stress
  • Oily skin with enlarged pores
  • New dark marks or early scarring after breakouts

How we treat it at Egg Clinic

Every plan starts with a dermatologist consultation to identify your acne type, severity and likely triggers, and to review your current skincare and any medications. Depending on what we find, your plan may combine several of the following:

  • Prescription care: topical treatments and, when appropriate, oral medication to reduce oil, bacteria and inflammation
  • Extraction: careful removal of individual spots or a full-face extraction to clear clogged pores hygienically
  • Anti-inflammatory injection: a small intralesional injection that can help a large, painful cyst settle faster
  • Chemical exfoliation: peels that help remove excess keratin and keep pores clearer
  • Laser and energy-based care: options such as Potenza or Joule BBL may be added to help calm inflammation and support skin repair

For persistent acne, our Acne Total Care program combines these steps into a structured course.

What to expect

Your first visit includes a skin assessment and a personalized plan. In-clinic sessions usually take 30 to 60 minutes. Extraction and injections can cause brief discomfort, and mild redness or swelling typically settles within one to two days. Many patients notice fewer active breakouts over several weeks, with sessions repeated every two to four weeks. Results vary, and ongoing maintenance is often needed because acne can recur.

Aftercare

  • Avoid scrubbing, harsh cleansing, exfoliating or massaging the treated area on the day of treatment
  • Do not touch, pick or squeeze spots
  • Use gentle, non-comedogenic cleansers and moisturizers
  • Apply sunscreen daily, especially while using prescription treatments
  • Take prescribed medication exactly as directed and report any side effects

Frequently asked questions

Can I just squeeze my pimples at home?

We advise against it. Squeezing can push bacteria deeper, increase inflammation and raise the risk of dark marks and scars. Professional extraction uses sterile tools and technique to reduce that risk.

How quickly will my skin improve?

Some calming is often seen within a few weeks, but acne is a chronic condition and meaningful improvement usually takes a series of visits. Your dermatologist will adjust the plan based on how your skin responds.

Can acne treatment also help existing scars?

Treating active acne helps prevent new scars. Existing scars usually need a separate approach, such as microneedle radiofrequency or laser resurfacing, which we can discuss once breakouts are under control.
