Thread Lifting

What is Thread Lifting?

A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure in which medical threads, commonly made of PDO (polydioxanone) or similar absorbable materials, are inserted under the skin through a thin needle or cannula. Threads with small barbs or cogs grip the tissue so it can be gently lifted and repositioned.

Over the following months, the threads are gradually absorbed by the body. During that time they trigger a mild healing response that stimulates collagen around the thread path, which may continue to support firmness after the threads dissolve.

Who it's for

Thread lifting may be considered by people concerned about:

  • Sagging cheeks and jowls
  • Deepening nasolabial folds and marionette lines
  • A softening jawline
  • Mild to moderate laxity where surgery is not desired
  • Wanting more immediate repositioning than devices alone

How we treat it at Egg Clinic

Your doctor evaluates the direction and degree of sagging and plans thread type, number and vectors. Cog threads are used for lifting, while smooth threads may be used to support skin quality.

After local anesthesia, threads are introduced through small entry points, usually near the hairline or in front of the ear, and anchored along planned lines across the cheeks, jawline or neck. Thread lifting is often combined with HIFU or radiofrequency to address skin quality.

What to expect

A detailed consultation comes first to assess suitability. Local anesthetic is used for comfort, and you may feel pressure or tugging during the procedure, which usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.

Swelling, bruising, tenderness and a feeling of tightness are common for several days. Small dimples or irregularities may appear early and usually settle as tissue relaxes. Less common risks include infection, thread visibility or asymmetry.

Some lift is visible right away, and the result settles over about two to four weeks. Effects typically last around one year or more depending on the thread and individual factors. Results vary.

Aftercare

  • Avoid wide mouth opening, chewing hard foods and exaggerated expressions for 1–2 weeks
  • Do not massage or rub the face for about 2 weeks
  • Sleep on your back with your head slightly raised
  • Avoid saunas, alcohol and intense exercise for about a week
  • Skip dental work and facial treatments for several weeks unless cleared

Frequently asked questions

Is thread lifting the same as a facelift?

No. It is less invasive, uses no large incisions and has shorter recovery, but the lift is more modest and temporary compared with surgery.

Will the threads be visible?

Threads are placed beneath the skin and are generally not visible. Early puckering can occur and usually settles within a few weeks.

How long do results last?

Threads dissolve over several months, but collagen support can extend effects. Many people see results for about a year or longer, depending on the individual.
