Sessions: Often 3–5 sessions, 1–2 weeks apart

Joule MLP

What is Joule MLP?

Joule MLP uses a flat-head applicator that delivers light at a consistent intensity across the treatment area. The broad spectrum is absorbed by different targets in the skin: melanin in pigment spots, hemoglobin in dilated vessels and bacteria associated with acne.

By heating these targets, the light may fade pigment, constrict visible vessels and calm acne-prone skin, while gentle warming of the dermis supports collagen. A sapphire cooling tip helps protect the skin surface during each pulse.

Who it's for

Joule MLP may be helpful for people with:

  • Flushing, redness and visible small vessels
  • Freckles, sun spots and uneven tone
  • Enlarged pores and rough texture
  • Active or recurring acne, as part of a medical plan
  • Early laxity and fine wrinkles
  • Overall dull or tired-looking skin

How we treat it at Egg Clinic

After the doctor assesses your skin type and concerns, filters and energy are chosen accordingly. A thin gel may be applied, and the cooled applicator is moved across the face in overlapping pulses.

The full face is the main area, with options for the neck or face and neck together. Joule MLP is often combined with laser toning, Excel V or skin boosters as part of a broader skin plan.

What to expect

Your visit begins with a consultation, as light treatments need care with tanned skin and certain medications. Treatment takes about 10 to 20 minutes. You may feel quick warm snaps, eased by the cooling tip.

Temporary redness or a burning sensation may appear and usually fades within days. Pigment spots often darken and flake off over about one week. Improvements develop gradually, and a series of sessions spaced one to two weeks apart is common; full skin renewal may take several weeks. Results vary.

Aftercare

  • Moisturize right after treatment and regularly afterward
  • Apply sunscreen when outdoors and avoid tanning
  • Wash your face and apply makeup from the next day
  • Avoid peeling or scrub products
  • Let any darkened spots or crusts shed naturally
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas and steam rooms for one week

Frequently asked questions

Is Joule MLP the same as IPL?

It is a broadband light treatment in the same family as IPL. The Joule platform is designed to deliver consistent, even pulses with surface cooling.

Can I have it with a tan?

Recent tanning raises the risk of burns and pigment changes, so the doctor may recommend waiting until the tan fades.

Will it help my acne?

The light may help reduce acne-causing bacteria and redness, but acne usually also needs medical treatment. A dermatologist will advise on a combined plan.
