What is Sofwave?

Sofwave uses a technology called SUPERB, which sends seven parallel, cylindrical ultrasound beams (each about 1.5 x 4 mm) into the skin at a frequency of 11.5 MHz. The beams heat precise zones in the mid-dermis, at roughly 1.5–2.0 mm deep, to about 60–70°C.

This controlled heat encourages the skin to produce new collagen and elastin. Because the energy stays within a shallow, well-defined layer, it is designed to limit effects on the fat and muscle beneath, which is why it is often considered for thinner skin and delicate areas.

The applicator has an integrated cooling system that protects the surface while ultrasound is delivered. Because the treatment depth is consistent, the doctor focuses on coverage and energy settings rather than switching between depths.

What to expect

Your consultation covers your goals, skin thickness and medical history. Numbing cream is applied, and the handpiece is moved across each area in passes. You may feel brief heat or a stinging sensation, which typically eases as the cooling engages.

Treatment takes about 30 to 40 minutes. You can usually wash your face and wear makeup right after. Temporary redness, mild swelling, stinging or small bruises may occur and generally resolve within a few days.

Improvement tends to build gradually over roughly two to three months as collagen forms. Many patients return every 3 to 6 months to maintain results, which vary from person to person.

Sofwave targets the mid-dermis rather than the fat layer, so it is designed to limit volume loss. Your doctor will still assess your face to choose the right device and settings.

Is it suitable for the eye area?

Sofwave is often used around the brows and eyes because of its consistent, shallow depth. Suitability is confirmed during your consultation.

How is Sofwave different from HIFU?

Traditional HIFU focuses energy at points and at several depths, including the SMAS. Sofwave uses parallel beams at one mid-dermal depth, so it is mainly aimed at skin quality and firmness.
