Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves resting in a chamber where the pressure is raised above normal atmospheric pressure while you breathe concentrated oxygen. Under pressure, more oxygen dissolves into the blood plasma and can reach tissues more readily.

In hospital settings, HBOT is an established treatment for specific medical conditions. In an aesthetic clinic, it is offered as a wellness option that some people use to support recovery and general well-being. Evidence for wellness uses is still developing, so benefits vary and should not be expected to treat disease.

Who it's for

Hyperbaric oxygen sessions may interest people who:

  • Want a relaxing wellness session alongside skin treatments
  • Are looking for support during recovery after procedures
  • Feel fatigued during busy or stressful periods
  • Are visiting Seoul and want to recharge after travel
  • Have been screened by a physician as suitable

How we treat it at Egg Clinic

Because pressure changes affect the ears, sinuses and lungs, a physician screens you before your first session. Tell us about ear or sinus problems, lung conditions, recent surgery, claustrophobia, pregnancy or any medical devices.

  • 2 ATA: a commonly used pressure setting for wellness sessions
  • 3 ATA: a higher pressure option when considered appropriate
  • Session length: about one hour per session
  • Plans: single sessions or packages of 5 or 10

What to expect

You enter the chamber in comfortable clothing and lie or sit down. As pressure increases, you may feel fullness in your ears, similar to a plane landing; swallowing or yawning helps. Staff monitor you throughout, and you can signal if you are uncomfortable.

Most people feel relaxed and return to their day immediately. Possible side effects include ear or sinus discomfort, temporary fatigue, lightheadedness and, rarely, ear barotrauma or other pressure-related effects. Any benefits tend to be gradual and vary by person.

Aftercare

  • Drink water and rest if you feel tired afterward
  • Avoid flying or diving immediately after a session unless cleared by a physician
  • Tell us if you develop ear pain, hearing changes or sinus pain
  • Avoid sessions when you have a cold or congestion
  • Follow the schedule your physician recommends

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, cotton clothing. Electronics, lighters and some cosmetics are not allowed inside the chamber for safety.

Is it suitable for everyone?

No. Certain lung, ear and sinus conditions, pregnancy and some medical devices may make HBOT unsuitable. A physician screens you first.

How many sessions should I do?

Some people try a single session; others choose a package of 5 or 10. Your physician can suggest what fits your goals.
