What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal works on a principle called selective photothermolysis. The laser's energy is absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair shaft and follicle. The light turns into heat inside the follicle, which damages its ability to produce new hair while the surrounding skin is protected by cooling.

Hair grows in cycles, and only follicles in the active growth phase respond well. That is why several sessions spaced a few weeks apart are needed. The goal is long-term hair reduction; some fine or light hairs may remain, and occasional maintenance sessions may be helpful.

Who it's for

Laser hair removal may suit you if you want to reduce:

  • Underarm, bikini, leg or arm hair
  • Facial hair on the upper lip, chin, jawline or hairline
  • Beard shaping or neckline hair for men
  • Ingrown hairs and razor bumps from frequent shaving
  • Time spent on shaving and waxing

How we treat it at Egg Clinic

Your consultation covers your hair color and thickness, skin tone, recent sun exposure and any medications. Settings are chosen for your skin type and the treatment area, and a test spot can be done if needed.

Separate plans are available for women and men, since hair density and common treatment areas differ.

  • Face: upper lip, chin, cheeks, hairline, beard line
  • Body: underarms, arms, legs, bikini area, back and chest
  • Cooling: built-in cooling helps protect the skin surface during each pulse

What to expect

Shave the area the day before or the day of treatment, but do not wax or pluck, because the laser needs the root in place. Each pulse feels like a quick snap or warm sting. Numbing cream can be used for sensitive areas.

Mild redness and small bumps around the follicles are common and usually settle within hours to a day. Rarely, blistering or pigment changes may occur, which is why settings are adjusted carefully. Treated hairs shed over one to three weeks. Most people need about five or more sessions for noticeable reduction, and results vary with hair color, hormones and area.

Aftercare

  • Avoid hot baths, saunas and intense exercise for a day
  • Apply sunscreen and avoid tanning between sessions
  • Do not wax or pluck between sessions; shaving is fine
  • Use a soothing moisturizer if the skin feels warm
  • Skip exfoliating products on the area for a few days

Frequently asked questions

Is laser hair removal permanent?

It is designed for long-term hair reduction rather than complete, lifelong removal. Many people see significant thinning, and some choose occasional touch-ups.

Does it hurt?

Most people describe a quick snapping sensation. Cooling and numbing options help keep it comfortable.

Can I get treated with tanned skin?

Recent tanning raises the risk of irritation and pigment changes. Let us know at consultation so we can adjust or reschedule.
